To Live With Breast Cancer
Breast
cancer is a very real issue facing many women
in our community and unfortunately, is often coupled
with feelings of fear, hopelessness, and isolation.
If you or someone you know is struggling to cope
with difficult medical treatments and side effects
or fight off feelings of loneliness or despair,
there is help available. The Department of Clinical
Services* new, completely confidential support
group is designed for women to receive chizuk,
hope, share their experiences, learn coping skills,
and gain renewed strength in their fight against
cancer.
Learning To Live With Breast Cancer is
a free eight-week educational and support group
based on the program created by a recognized health
psychologist at Harvard Medical School and Beth
Israel Deaconess Medical Center. This group offers
stress management, relaxation techniques, cognitive
restructuring, nutrition education, and journal
writing among other interventions in a culturally
sensitive and frum perspective. Research has shown
that participating in these types of support groups
benefits patients quality of life and possibly
survival.
The group is lead by a trained clinician experienced
in psychological oncology, who has been working
with cancer patients at Albert Einstein College
of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center, and Mount
Sinai Medical Center for several years. Additionally,
individual therapy is available for patients,
family members, and caretakers.
